Hier ist ein Report von einer Livejournal Userin (insomnia_geek), die einen Bericht über Jared und Jensen
geschrieben hat.

Sunday's report from LA Con (part 1, Jared's panel)

All right, first things first. I almost feel I have to apologize for yesterday's report. I was trying to sum up from memory Kripke's panel, I was tired, stressed, and I may have worded something that sounded off outside of context. But I didn't want to get into the full context there, as I was just trying to post highlights. Whatever you may feel about Sam versus Dean or Sam&Dean, it's not a matter of favoring one over the other at the cost of the brothers' relationship. The story is about THEM as a family, about their relationship, but they are very different personalities. I tried to get Kripke's words as he said them, but lost some context. So please, don't vent your feelings about Sam vs Dean here, whatever you feel about Kripke and his preferences. Although he has said that in the initial conception of the show, he is Sam, but would like to be Dean.

So because of that, I took notes this time!!

At the breakfast this morning (which I didn't go to, unfortunately) Jared confirmed that he and Sandy are engaged. They were keeping it under wraps until he could announce it at the con today. They repeated this in both Jared's panel and Sandy's later in the day.

There were a lot more people here today compared to yesterday, as most people just want to see the boys. Which was too bad, considering how much fun yesterday was, but then again, I like smaller crowds. It was pretty full still, not packed out, and people were in general very good. I got in at around 10:15am, since I couldn't go to the breakfast and didn't get a photo (when the choice is between a photo op or filling my car with gas, well, practicality wins out). Talked with several people while we waited, grabbed decent seats once the theater opened, marveled at the huge line for the photos (which moved really fast).

Jared was on first. Came out on stage looking gorgeous as always in jeans, a button up and that black coat. He's funny, engaging, generous, and lots of fun. People congratulated him on his engagement.

* Did they coach the kids in the Christmas episode? No. They met them, but never coached him. The two boys really do have the same sort of brotherly relationship on screen and off as Sam and Dean. Everyone was really happy with their performances.

* In Born Under a Bad Sign, that scream as the demon was exorcised was him, but also digitally altered. Jensen ad libbed in the punch at the end, which was really funny and ended up in the final cut. Jared would love to play a demon again, or at least bad Sam, because it was really fun.

* In Bad Day at Black Rock, after Dean bursts out that "sonuvabitch!" in the graveyard, that was Jared cracking up.

* The most challenging episode for him has been Mystery Spot, because it was such a weird episode for an actor. In order to make it real, it had to be real to Jared. He had to imagine his brother dying in order to get himself emotionally in the right place, which was particularly hard since it was around Christmastime, and he gets so happy around that time that it's hard to get on set and have to be sad.

* He thinks Jensen's best episode this season has been The Kids Are Alright. He could watch it as an audience member since he wasn't in it a lot, and just loved it. It was scary and touching and funny and whatnot.

* Has he ever done something embarrassing in front of celebrities? More with musicians than actors, because of the differences in profession. But once at either the Golden Globes or an after party, he was gawking at Tom Hanks like a slackjawed fangirl -- er, boy.

* The girl from Texas A&M asked why he was ever enrolled at UT (was going to major in engineering before getting into acting). He joked with her about the basketball teams, said he loves the Austin area, his sister is about to graduate from there. Apparently Jared just signed to film the next Friday the 13th movie, so it'll be shooting in that area.

* In Mystery Spot, the synchronized talking. He had Jensen say it a bunch of times while in the car on the way to set, then started mimicking him, so when Sam had to imitate him like he's heard it a hundred times before, he could get that reaction. The hardest part was not getting it right, but trying not to laugh or act so surprised when they did get it right. As for why Sam has a ruler by the bed . . . answer that yourselves.

* Jared doesn't have any tattoos, doesn't know exactly when in the storyline Sam&Dean got their tattoos shown in Jus in Bello, but now whenever they have a shirtless scene, those will have to be there.

* A girl brought the photos of Jared with his hair in pigtails and asked for the story behind them. Jared was rather embarrassed, said he didn't remember that, he couldn't think of a single reason for it, that most likely it was just one of those things they do on set to kind of relax. Maybe he lost a dare -- yeah, that's his excuse (personally, I think he just didn't want to share the story).

* Where does he see himself professionally in 5 years? Working. He wants to keep working, keep busy, obviously married by that time. He'll do the show until it's done, wants to do more movies.

* He threatened us to be nice to Sandy at her panel, that if we were mean to her he'd come after us. (Was that a threat or an incentive?)

* The Actor's Studio question: Favorite word? cookies. Least favorite word? No. Favorite curse? Shit.

* In AHBL, did he behave himself while playing dead? Yes, he restrained his joker impulses and really did his best to be dead to help Jensen to play the scene. It was hard to lay there and try not to move or breathe or anything, but it paid off. Jensen really went there in that monologue, and Jared could hear it and wanted to cry.

* In filming Mystery Spot, their crew is amazingly efficient. They block shot the episode, which is really hard for an actor to do, as different scenes are lumped together. But Kim managed to get them through, and they managed to get in all done on budget and saved themselves a couple hours of extra film time otherwise.

* If they did a bodyswap episode, how would he play Dean? Jared thought that would be interesting and fun, to play it like Face/Off. He'd make a lot of stupid faces, like Jensen does.

* What's the hardest part of Sam to play? Jared's gotten a good feel for the character over time, and finds it fairly easy by now to slip into his mindset. Mystery Spot was hard, because Sam was freaking out and never got used to Dean dying. To act well, it has to be real, so some things are hard to relate to Jared's life, like Sam angsting over his possible demonic side. He loved playing evil Sam, because it was against his nature.

* There was one guy there who was actually taller than Jared, apparently 6'8". Jared called him "his tall brother." He asked if there was one line for Sam, what would it be? Jared said Sam should steal sonuvabitch and make it his own, "Dean my ass!" Or maybe that should be it -- "Dean my ass!"

* "Hi, I'm Samantha." "Hi Samantha, I'm Sam." Jared seems to be sticking with horror movies right now. Is there a reason? He is a huge horror fan, likes doing it, likes how horror takes you out of your own world for a while. That's also where the industry is going right now. He would like to do drama, maybe a war movie. And would definitely like to do a western.

* What does he do in his spare time? Since Harley had knee surgery and is staying with Sandy, Jared has Sadie up on set with him and plays with her to keep her from chewing the place up. He relaxes, calls Sandy, but can't totally break out of the character in between scenes. It's not like he can hold Dean's body, then be like, "Hey, let's go chase butterflies!" The mike was cutting out around here, so he tried yelling briefly before a tech ran out with another mike.

Then Jensen walked out with "What a bunch of crap!" and it was his turn for the panel. Jared left, but as Jensen was settling in Jared made a farting noise offstage into the mike, and Jensen played it. He was being a bit of a goof, commented on the banners hanging around on the walls. On Jared's -- "Ugly." On Fredric/YED -- "Evil." On Ash -- "Chad". On Dean in sunglasses -- "There he is!" Playing around aside, he is seriously just as gorgeous in real life, very funny in a slightly self-deprecating way.

There was an electric buzz around the con starting as early as eight in the morning as fans who couldn’t afford the VIP breakfast tickets lined up for their photo ops. There were glimpses of Jared as he was taken from here to there. A quick blur that was Sandy McCoy rushing toward the green room. No Jensen spottings. . . but it’s still early.

Once the breakfast club was unleashed, the lines grew to twice the length and as if the fans weren’t giddy enough, the con staff kept yelling, “everyone who is doing Jensen line up against the left wall. If you’re doing both Jensen and Jared, line up against the right.” Come on, how can you not giggle about that?

Minutes later you could see them, the zombie-like fangirls rounding the corner on the way back from having their photo ops. Yes, that’s the power of the boys, they leave even the most boisterous fan utterly speechless. Some went from one line straight into another and more stories ran through the crowd. A hug, a squeeze, a. . . hey. . is that really an appropriate place to put your hand? Laughter, jokes, and plenty of nerves which the boys both calmed with their slow Southern charm.

And finally it was time for them to take the stage, to a packed house of mostly women.

Let’s have a warm welcome for Jared Padalecki.

DSC00755 He’s smiling and relaxed as he takes the stage and faces off against a million camera flashes and the thunderous cheers. People have already lined up at the mics to ask questions,so he dives right in. Jared revels in this stuff, I think. It’s what sustains him when it’s 3:30 am in Vancouver, minus 10 and raining. He turns serious to discuss how hard it was to play the scenes where Dean dies in “Mystery Spot.” A moment later he’s teasing a fan about being from a rival Texas University. You can hear the passion in his voice as he talks about getting the synchronized speaking down just right (again from “Mystery Spot”) and the admiration he has for his co-star as he talks about Jensen’s performance in “All Hell Breaks Loose.”

Ribbing Jensen comes easily off his tongue as a fan asks about how he’d play a body swap episode and soon Jensen has a chance to fight back as he cuts Jared off with a mock-disgusted “enough already.” The boys swap places (not bodies) and the current shifts a little. Jensen’s a tad more reserved than Jared, but it’s the kind of subtly that makes you want to lean forward in your chair and listen more closely. He doesn’t have to work at being funny or charming, he pulls people in without any effort at all. He talks about music and how being surrounded by the likes of Steve Carlson keeps him humble. He talks about being afraid of clowns and gutters and dolls with no eyes and really playing the piano in Dark Angel. He’s answering plenty of questions but I’m not sure anyone is listening to the actual words, just the sound of his voice. The craziest thing he’s ever done? This, of course.

Jensen and Jared Then Jared returns to the stage and there’s this odd little moment where the two of them lean in close to each other and talk, laugh, all out of mic range. Then, it’s as if they remember where they are — realize there’s a room full of fans hanging on their every word — Jensen leans back and says they were talking in code and you know that this is something they do every day on the set. Like real brothers, finishing each other’s sentences. It feels kind of ‘intimate’ and the tone shifts again, but just for a second.

Soon Jared is rubbing his chest and doing a mock striptease, Jensen does his imitation of “Sam” (hands in pockets, shoulders to ears, emo face) and Jared pouts over amount of attention his TV brother is getting. Jensen continues to answer questions mostly straight and serious, while Jared’s all over the map. His “favorite demon killing weapon” answer leaves even Jensen confused. His favorite scene in “Born Under a Bad Sign?” The exorcism in Bobby’s house because he got to be, “tied up and couldn’t move, got water splashed on me, played evil, got the black eyes. . . “ The fans approve. And when Jensen is asked, what’s the hardest thing about playing Dean Winchester he deadpans, “his affection for his brother.” Jared laughs and that’s always entertaining.

The truth is, says Jensen, he and Jared have gotten so close over the years that they can use each other now to get to those tough emotional spots in the story. He no longer has to substitute a loved one in his mind to work up the tears over Sam’s death. He only has to think of Jared and it’s there.

DSC00805 Time is called and the boys leave the stage. They head down to sign autographs for an hour plus and never once does their enthusiasm for the task wane. They sign and chat, they compare gifts, shouting across the small room to each other. They converse with fans as best they can with so many in line, but most of all they smile and make eye contact and that makes every person feel special.

You could say these two have been well trained in how to work a crowd but honestly, I think it’s more a product of their parents than their managers. When these two Texas boys smile at a fan and say, ‘thanks for coming,’ they really mean it. And you can bet that the drawings and scrapbook pages they were handed will go up in their trailers as reminders of why they do what they do when it’s the 15th hour of a shooting day that began at four in the morning.

Charles Malik Whitfield at the Chicago Convention

Charles Malik Whitfield (FBI Agent Victor Henricksen) is scheduled to attend Creation Entertainment's 2nd Annual Salute to Supernatural, to be held Friday-Sunday, November 14-16, 2008 at Wyndham Chicago O'Hare, 6810 N. Mannheim Rd., Rosemont, Illinois.

As was already announced, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Jason Manns, Gabriel Tigerman (Andrew "Andy" Gallagher), Samantha Smith (Mary Winchester) and Chad Lindberg (Ash) are also scheduled to attend the event.

Manns, who provided original music for Supernatural and Carpoolers, will be appearing on stage Saturday and will perform a one man concert Saturday evening at 9PM.

Jensen and Jared Attend the Salute to 'Supernatural' Convention

This past weekend in Chicago, Creation Entertainment held the second annual Salute to Supernatural convention, allowing fans to see their favorite stars from the CW series. Aside from Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, the special event also featured actors Gabriel Tigerman (Andy from season 2's "Simon Said"), Samantha Smith (Mary Winchester), Chad Lindberg (Ash), Charles M. Whitfield (Agent Henricksen) and Richard Speight, Jr. (Trickster).

The CW Source reported all the exciting details from the convention, which was attended by thousands of fans from all around the country. Read on to see what Jensen and Jared had to say about the future of Supernatural, and what life is like now that they live together.

Both Jensen and Jared held separate Q&A sessions during the event, then teamed up to answer some questions together. Here are the highlights from all the various panels:

• Jared revealed that laughter can sometimes be a big problem on the set. He admitted that there were better versions of Dean's girlie scream in “Yellow Fever,” but he was cracking up so much that they couldn't be used in the episode.

• Jensen revealed that Eric Kripke actually planned to make season 4 the final year of Supernatural. Luckily for fans, the show has been doing so well in the ratings this season that he changed his mind.

• Jared mentioned that he worries whenever he sees a script written by Sera Gamble. “It usually means I'm getting naked, crying, or getting naked AND crying,” he joked.

• Jensen's favorite kind of cake? “Chocolate on chocolate. With chocolate in it, and then chocolate sprinkles on top. With a big dish of chocolate on the side.”

• Jared initially wanted to get into acting because a girl he had a crush on was obsessed with Home Improvement's Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Jared was later excited to run into JTT on an audition and learn that he towers over him.

• When asked about his least favorite episode, Jensen admitted that he likes every episode for different reasons. He jokingly added that he only had a problem with this season's “In the Beginning,” because he had to work for an entire week while Jared jetted off to Hawaii.

• An exec from the CW was greatly disturbed by the teddy bear suicide scene in “Wishful Thinking” and wanted it cut from the episode. Jensen's reaction: “Have you WATCHED the show? We have people's eyes bleeding and guts ripped out, and you're worried about teddy bear stuffing on the wall?”

• Jared said that he's happy Sam isn't getting strangled as much this season, as it's hard for him to record dialogue when he's wheezing and lightheaded.

• When asked what career he'd have if he wasn't an actor, Jensen said he'd either be a fisherman, a pro athlete or a male stripper. “There's a career in there somewhere,” he said.

• All the guns on the show are loaded with blanks, but that doesn't stop the boys from unexpectedly shooting each other in the back. “That's what Texas guys do when they're bored,” Jensen joked.

• When Jared was alone on stage, he made a big show about rubbing the microphone under his nose and in his armpits. He then tried to give it to Jensen when he came on stage, but he was too smart to take the mic. "He knows!" Jared said. "I don't, I just trust me instincts," Jensen replied.

• Neither of the boys have any tattoos, which is something they're thankful for. Jensen revealed that Jamie King, his co-star in My Bloody Valentine 3-D, had to spend nearly three extra hours in makeup to have her nine tattoos covered up. “I'd rather sleep,” he said.

• Now that the guys live together, who takes the longest to get ready in the morning? Jensen: "I'm going to write a book and call it Waiting on Jared." Jared replied: "I have my dogs that I have to let out, it's my house that I have to lock up, I work out in the morning..." Jensen cut him off, saying, “And I'm waiting in the car. Jared is the girl.”
